Open Data Governance Standard (ODGS)

An Apache 2.0 open-source protocol turning passive governance definitions into deterministic runtime validation.

From Governance Documents to Runtime Dependencies

Across 25 years of global enterprise transformations, the same failure pattern repeated in every industry: business rules lived in PDFs, while data flowed through pipelines—and the two never met.

The Open Data Governance Standard (ODGS) (v6.1.0 on GitHub, PyPI, and NPM under Apache 2.0; DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.18564270) is the structural fix:

  • Decoupled Semantic Contracts: Separates normative business definitions and quality rules from vendor-specific compute engines (Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, BigQuery, Collibra).
  • Synchronous Runtime Interception: Physically blocks pipelines or AI agents (odgs-mcp-server) from executing when upstream data or metric definitions drift outside legal or operational tolerances.
  • Cryptographic Provenance Receipts: Emits verifiable, tamper-evident SHA-256 execution certificates aligned with ISO/IEC 38505-1, ISO/IEC 25012, ISO 8000-8, and W3C ODRL 2.2.
